Ty Segall certainly like to keep things interesting. Not content to cultivate a singular sound , he opts instead to keep his fans on their toes by making each release as wildly unpredictable as the last. Well, In The Red recording label just last week shot over this debut full lenght by GØGGS noise punk garage project .
If he thought I’d enjoy it because it was more “fierce-ly” so naturally, yeah, my ears perked up. GØGGS is Segall’s new project with Ex-Cult ’s Chris Shaw at the microphone and longtime collaborator Charles Moothart completing the trio. music is charming sort of creepy son of Black Flag and Jay Reatard.
The entire release feels very gruff, almost searing, with Chris Shaw’s dense vocals whipping up haunting distorted guitars and bursting Ty on drums.
This is the sort of release that I expect from eclectic wizards like Ty. He’s not cashing in on an easy trend to his music from his fans. He’s just doing what he loves. And what I love is listening to him do what he loves. Simple as that.
