Although I’ve been following the rather Seattle psych garage outfit Night Beats for some years now, nothing prepared me for the pure, face-melting awesomeness of Who Sold My Generation . No, I was not expecting this album to blow me away, but that’s exactly what it did do.
I’m sure Night Beats needs little introduction, and sometimes it’s best to not describe things, but to just be blown away by them, even so, for the uninitiated, Night Beats is a band whose vibes revolves around core members Lee Blackwell and James Traeger, and their music varies between stripped down raw fuzz-fueled garage dirges melting with the flowing and exotic nature of 60’s psychedelic music.
The rock trio has put out a good number of releases in their time through a myriad of record labels ( Trouble In Mind , The Reverberation Appreciation Society, Resurrection Records , and now Heavenly ) and all that time they’ve more or less stuck to the crusty garage psych arena, and you know, the problem with that scene is that it is so easy to get lost in the shuffle. Fortunately, Night Beats decided to switch things up a bit with their works and have kicked things into a whole new gear. The music is intoxicating, the garage tension is interminable, the psych-grooves are a swarm, and there is a ton of shamanic atmosphere on their lysergic-burning fuzz jams.
Granted, there is probably nothing on this records that you haven’t heard in one form or another before, but if you’re focused on that I think you’re missing the point entirely. Night Beats is a celebration of psych rock music in its purest form, and deliver that homage as loudly, as catchy, and in the most fun manner they can. I dig.
I am helpless to follow, but I hope be yapping again soon…

Dude, thank you so much for this
in the used cd stores that I used to frequent there would always be a huge land fill table filled with cds from shitty bands with great cover art work that usually distracted the awe full music enclosed …yes anybody can play a guitar and get a chance at immortality and all the debauchery you could desire but if the tunes aren’t there you’re just another poser schmuck with a cool haircut..fuck you and the genitalia that produced you…but bands with ears and soul like the Night Beats, sorry lame band name, still make getting off the shitter worthwhile and force a smile…thanks for posting
