The Imajinary Friends

BJM fellas has always steered clear of shameless self promotion, avoiding the world of advertising and hype almost completely, which is probably why I had no idea this was came out, until I found it years after, indeed was last week.
The side work of a couple of they under the The Imajinary Friends moniker continues to remain shrouded in mystery to me , and constantly evolves into something more psych-genre-defiance with each listen
Come Out To Play was the name of their second whatever-step future-psych bender.Similar to 1994’s amazing Lunchtime In Infinity full length, with that familiar sprawling dissonance and experimentalism samples, but the better half of this ep moves towards something more streamlined and pop oriented. No complaints here.
An excellent opening track, and one that will surely reintroduce your ears to Imajinary Friends black magic. It’s not until the second track, Hadjimiradji , that we hear a slight shift in vibes with swirling synth melody that constantly shifts, splitting off into a hundred different directions at times, anyway, everything is in it’s place, and held together by that hypnotic tension shuffle they does all too well.
From there, things keeps off with a swooning voice sample, stretching out over the mechanic percussive click and deep synth-scapes, sounding something like a frenzies scrapped Can´s remix, and that’s a good thing.
Every few measures brings a new sound, whether it be a scraping piece of sound coupling, or some frightening scream .
All this is a mysterious one indeed, as you don’t even notice it’s slow build until it’s already too late, and the results are when your mind is absolutely blowing.
