Definitly, to my mind, The Sufis is the most consistently awesome psych baroque pop band currently making the rounds. Two efforts they dropped out is a perfect synthesis of their influences. They bring garage attitude, the technical sonic brilliance of baroque pop, and the keen ear for hooks of Beatles.
I´ve literally been listening to Inventions almost non-stop since Evan Smith dropped it last week on my box .
Calvin LaPorte is a guy who born in Nashville and at seem he was grown up taking musicals inspirations naturally since child, via his father’s record collection., where his mind was swamped with great things like The Beatles , Byrds, or Pink Floyd’s Syd Barrett.
Today he enjoys so simple things for him as play all instruments that he find around or experiment with old machines tape recorder, by which he is a relatively busy guy,but when he’s not in the studio he kicks his shoes off as The Sufis, including his talented friends Evan Smith and Jon Kemmerer , finding the secret to time travel in a brightly 60´s colored psych collage of hazy guitar-waves,breezy synth strides, subtle drum , and all sorts of weirdly-named instruments that gently float and stick in your head for days and days.
In other words, I´m saying if you haven’t already, check them out.
