Arctic Monkeys have kicked off this year’s BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend in Carlisle with a surprise appearance.
Billed as special guests the Sheffield foursome opened the event’s main stage with a 45-minute set.
Opening with The View From The Afternoon, the band mixed songs from their career including new single Don’t Sit Down ‘Cause I Moved Your Chair, I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor.
Speaking to the crowd lead singer Alex Turner said: “Nice to see everyone.”
Arctic Monkeys’ fourth album, Suck And It See, will be released on 6 June.

Arctic Monkeys Announce Fourth Album Details
Arctic Monkeys will release their fourth album, entitled ‘Suck It And See’ on Monday 6th June 2011.
‘Suck It And See’ features 12 new Arctic Monkeys songs and was produced by James Ford at Sound City Studios in Los Angeles.
The album will be available on CD (WIG258CD), vinyl (WIG258LP) and via digital download (WIG258D). The tracklisting for ‘Suck It And See’ is below:

Arctic Monkeys have released a new song called ‘Brick By Brick’ online.
The song appeared on the band’s website Arcticmonkeys.com this afternoon (March 4).
Footage in the video hints that the track was produced at Hollywood’s Sunset Sound Studios by longtime producer James Ford. The band recorded their new album in the Los Angeles district, and although it currently has no confirmed release date, the four-piece recently scheduled a series of festival dates and two hometown gigs in Sheffield this June.
