NME MAY 21, 2011 pdf

In this week’s NME…
We’re celebrating the release of a new film about Creation Records with a massive special on the label. ‘Label’? More like ‘rock n roll training camp for lunatics’. We speak to Alan McGee, Bobby G, Noel G, G Rhys and all the rest about the rise and fall of the label that put out ‘Screamadelica’, ‘Definitely Maybe’, and that Kevin Rowlands one where he’s in a dress on the cover…
Black Lips are mental, right? Noisy garage rock slaggy fuck-ups. Heroes, in other words. And just when you thought they couldn’t get any better, turns out they nearly killed Mark Ronson.
Elsewhere we interview Battles and Faris from the Horrors, check out Mona’s debut album and Death from Above 1979’s live return, and have a chat with the newly emerged Tom Vek…
And we’re also down the front at Pete Doherty’s solo return. And yes, blood is spilled…
Then there’s the gig guide, reviews and all those other little cool bits that makes your bosom swell. Buy it, or we’ll send you back in time to be a tour manager for Jesus & Mary Chain in 1985…

In this week’s NME..
It looks like the final end of The Libertines, as in the wake of the premiere of a new ‘warts and all to say the very least’ documentary, we speak to the band and find that there’s now no way back for Pete and Carl. Exclusive, incredibly candid interviews and photos from the wreckage…
In more pleasant news, Beastie Boys are back, MCA’s making a good recovery, and their new album’s cracking. YES!
Bob Marley – peace and love and spliffs? Not a bit of it. The guy was a properly hard-nut, revolutionary rock n roll star, and we’ve got the feature to prove it…
We also speak to The Cribs to find out why Johnny Marr suddenly decided to leave the band. WHY CAN’T EVERYONE JUST GET ON?
On top of that there’s The Strokes, Odd Future, Friendly Fires and the most comprehensive reviews, news and gig guide sections around.
Buy it, or we’ll get Pete Doherty to breathe on you.

Mile Kane SunBiz Sessions

Miles Kane has got the Beat

MILES KANE‘s stonking solo material has won him a whole new fanbase.

Talking to me as he recorded his Biz Session, the top lad revealed that he has really been a hit on the Continent.

Miles said: “They’re really digging the music in France.

“I’m on the cover of magazines because I’ve referenced JACQUES DUTRONC and SERGE GAINSBOURG.
“It’s really taking off.”

It’s good news, though he’d better steer clear of wearing a beret at his gigs or he’ll be bottled off

Miles – who formed The Last Shadow Puppets with ALEX TURNER – is supporting ARCTIC MONKEYS on their summer tour.

He said: “Everyone knows Alex is like a brother to me and their new record is great.
“Those gigs will be amazing.
“We’re gonna go out there and it will be a couple of fun days.”

Sun studios
Biz Sessions
There not be many people from Slough who have appeared on The Late Show with DAVID LETTERMAN.
But BROTHER, one of the best British bands to emerge for a long time, had their talent recognised last weekend with a starring slot on the US TV show.

The band played the far more modest surroundings of the Bizarre studio recently, and proved why the hype is deserved.

The band, frontman LEE NEWELL, SAMUEL JACKSON, JOSHUA WARD and FRANK COLUCCI, are on tour and play Heaven, in London, on May 23.

Single Still Here is out now and debut album Famous First Words is out on August 1.

Jane’s Addiction Live at After Hours Google I / O 2011 Moscone Center, San Francisco

Coming off a fiery performance this past  May 6 at the 7th Annual MusiCares MAP Fund Benefit honoring Depeche Mode lead singer Dave Gahan and Vans Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman, JANE’S ADDICTION performed a live concert Tuesday, May 10 during the Google I/O Developer Conference at Moscone Center in San Francisco, shared on streaming   in state-of-the-art HD.  The performance by the groundbreaking band’s Perry Farrell (lead vocals), Dave Navarro (guitars) and Stephen Perkins (drums), with Chris Chaney on bass, is part of the Google I/O After Hours party .

You can found  JANE’S ADDICTION  performing a set encompassing classics and material from their upcoming album  THE GREAT ESCAPE ARTIST, to be released this August on Capitol Records.  It will mark their first new studio album in eight years. The band recently gave away a free download of the song ”End To The Lies”—teeming with “exotic rhythms and twisted guitars” .

For THE GREAT ESCAPE ARTIST, JANE’S ADDICTION are working with producer Rich Costey (Muse, Franz Ferdinand, Interpol), with TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek on the team. Sitek, best known for his production work on TV on the Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and the Foals, is writing, programming, and playing bass on the album. The band, with Chris Chaney on bass, will be touring throughout 2011.
JANE’S ADDICTION have written the rule book for alternative music and culture through a combination of genre-defying classic songs and a cinematic live experience. reat bands break rules, but legends write their own.
You can see  the full performance shared by Google and can download in mp3 ( separate tracks and full audio ) or the same video ( flv ) below.
 Enjoy it, greetings…

The Greenhornes @ KUT 5/6/11

The Greenhornes

Cincinnati garage rock trio The Greenhornes started playing together in 1996, released 3 albums and an EP, and then went on hiatus as 2 of their number joined Jack White and Brendan Benson to form The Raconteurs. Now The Greenhornes are back together, and have recently released their first album in 8 years. The influence of Jack White can be heard on their new record, as a result of both The Raconteurs and the fact that he helped to produce the album. The Greenhornes will play Antone’s on Friday May 6th night, and you can hear their live performance on KUT with host Jeff McCord in Studio 1a RIGHT HERE!.

Black Joe Lewis And The Honeybears

Posted by pepearljam on 9 May, 2011
Posted in: Uncategorized. Tagged: Black Joe Lewis And The Honeybears. Leave a comment

The Bright Light Social Hour, saludos…

The Vaccines At Daytrotter Sessions

Love And Headaches In Bedraggled States

May 4, 2011

Words by Sean Moeller
Recording engineered by Matt Oliver
Mastered by Sam Patlove

For being one of the busiest and most talked about bands in Austin this spring, during the dirty dog and pony show that has become South By Southwest, The Vaccines appeared to be in no hurry to leave our quaint, but comfortable compound. There was plenty of Pabst, Crispin hard apple cider and burgers and hot dogs sizzling on the grill. Out in the courtyard, the stakes for horseshoes were set up, with the shoes half-buried in the loosened pit dust, ready for someone to take on the next challenger. With beers in hand, the great, new rock and roll saviors from London, England, kept themselves around for a good amount of time, clinking the stakes and thumping the ground as they took it easy on their final day in Texas. Prior to their leisure games and drinks, lead singer Justin Young, bassist Árni Hjörvar, guitarist Freddie Cowan and drummer Pete Robertson, lit the studio on fire with the kind of of-the-moment music that makes everyone around it feel as if they were breathing in the freshest of air. The songs from the band’s forthcoming debut album, “What Did You Expect From The Vaccines?” are all quick-hitting nuggets of youthful disillusion and abandonment, with Young singing like a guy burning the candle at both ends, full of, but losing energy fast. Being young, good looking and running into the kinds of stammering and hiccupping romances as he and the rest of the Vaccines do is enough to wear you out in a hurry and the band has made a name for itself by diving into those choppy waters – waters that are cold enough to shock the system, but tolerable enough to keep them splashing in them for some time.

It’s music that embraces all of the faults and all of the exhilarating highs of being young and somewhat foolish. The Vaccines is a band that finds itself emphasizing the dreariness, as well as the thrilling qualities of finding love unreliable. There is the stuff that you find after a heartbreaking parting and there’s the stuff that you want to get back – as on “If You Wanna,” where the character that Young portrays is one who is feigning indifference by pretending to leave the ball in the departed lady’s court, when he’s really just coolly decimated, unable to function properly in the face of it all. The songs are pertinent and potent, packed with such verve, the kinds of feelings that you truly live for, the ones that you remember for all-time and, despite some hard memories associated with that period of your existence, they are the feelings that make you wistful. You wouldn’t mind going back to relive them because at least then, you’d be less bald, less paunchy, less gray, cooler and lovelier, able to attract those birds from across the room, even in an unkempt and bedraggled state.

Morning Teleportation

Posted by pepearljam on 5 May, 2011
Posted in: Uncategorized. Tagged: Morning Teleportation. Leave a comment

Colour Of the Trap 2011

Posted by pepearljam on 4 May, 2011
Posted in: Uncategorized. Tagged: Miles Kane. 2 Comments

Recorded in London with Dan Carey [Franz Ferdinand, Hot Chip] and San Francisco with Dan The Automator [Gorillaz, Kasabian], ‘Colour of the Trap’ is a glorious exploration into the darker corners of vintage pop, psych and blue-eyed soul sounds by Miles; half boy-next-door, half charisma-firework, all instantly loveable star quality. For such a stellar record, it’s perhaps fitting that this 12 track collection boasts an all-star cast. Miles’ Last Shadow Puppets sparring partner and full time Arctic Monkey Alex Turner worked with Miles on the aptly named ‘Telepathy’, while Super Furry Animal Gruff Rhys provides backing vocals throughout the album and co-wrote the turbulent moody blues of ‘Kingcrawler’.Noel Gallagher appears as well, helping out with harmonies on ‘My Fantasy’. The breathy, psychedelic romance ‘Happenstance’ features another guest: French actress Clémence Poésy, best known for her roles in ‘In Bruges’ and ‘Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire’).

Danger Mouse Record Store Day

Danger Mouse and Italian composer Daniel Luppi‘s Rome project finally yields its first single for your taste testing pleasure. Many of the instrumentalists on the album recorded with Ennio Morricone for his classic spaghetti Western soundtracks.
‘Two Against One’ is Jack White’s first song to be released post White Stripes split, a collaboration set for Brian ‘Danger Mouse’ Burton and Danielle Luppi’s new record.
In true Record Store Day spirit we mustn’t forget the B-side, in this case ‘Black’, featuring Norah Jones.
If these two songs are anything to go by we’re all in for a real treat with ‘Rome’; this could shape up to be another amazing album said  eclectic Dangermouse . I agree..
