Si comienzo a hablarles de Mike Watt es muy probable de que me olvide decir algunas de las tantas cosas interesantes que hizo, mi admiracion por su impronta hace que solo me limite a resumir en algunas palabras lo que Mike Watt es.
Su nombre completo es Michael David Watt, es de San Pedro, California , hijo de un marinero, y comenzo a tocar el bajo con el gran D.Boon , como el dice, como un chico que mas tarde tuvo una banda llamada Minutemen.
Desde entonces el bajo lo llevo por lugares muy interesantes como ser miembro de los Firehose y terminar tocando con sus idolos , los Stooges. Segun sus palabras esta tratando de aprender todo lo que puede, y en este proceso de aprendizaje nos va dejando maravilas musicales que es lo que trato que conozcan en este post , dedicado a unos de los musicos que particularmente considero define el Punk Rock.
Sus trabajos son muchisimos, ademas de las bandas nombradas, pueden encontrar su nombre en la formacion de mas de diez bandas extras, trabajos como sesionista , aunque pocos y sus discos solistas de los que me encargo aqui, Ball-HogOr Tugboat? de 1995, Contemplating The Engine Room de 1997 y el tercero y recien publicado Hyphenated-Man.
Agrego un disco en vivo grabado en Chicago en 1995, en el marco de la gira posterior al lanzamiento de su primer disco solista , para la misma se armo una banda que se llamó “The Crew Of The Flying Saucer”, que tenia entre sus filas nadamenos que a Dave Grohl, Eddie Vedder, Pat Gear ( ex- Germs y Nirvana) y dos bateristas. Incluye en su tracklist temas de los Minutemen ( Political Song…), de los de fIREHOSE ( Formal Introduction y Powerful Hakerin )y hasta un cover de Madonna ( Secret Garden ), espero los disfruten , saludos…
