Gotta give credit where credit is due, so shouts to beauty Mond Katze for putting me onto the dude Lee Spreadbury , who was kind enough to send me over their sophomore effort to listen.
Every family has a freak (or two), but Cat On The Howling Moon have a bunch, Gu-Ru’s “Into The Light ” is a very nice addition to their diversely psych awesome catalog.
A lot of kids these days they have a tendency to sample these type of vibes, there are more than enough of these types of bands popping up all over places lately, and from most only a handful of them will we possibly remember this time next year. Gu-ru is sure to be one of them, for me anyway. What these Leicester funk virtuosos decided to do is take it upon themselves and create they’re own version of a psych jazz funk and gives us “Into The Light”, four jangly, vintage radio tunes with enough catchy melodies to stick to your brain , trust me. It’s all here. Early 60’s inspired vocal harmonies- check. Washed out, funk bass – check. Good drives drums – check. TONS of treble and reverb synth dripping from it all- check, and you know, ain’t no party like a synth party.
For now you’ll have to settle with name your price-downloading “When I’m With You” and keep an eye out for their EP “Into The Light ” due out soon via Cat On The Howling Moon Records.
Lastly, do check out the first funky installment in their bandcamp if you’re into more organic sounds .
