Purling Hiss return with a fantastic new full length, complete with a new home at Drag City . by the way the folks at Drag City never cease to amaze me. Ever and anon , a fresh batch of mind-altering sounds, mysteriously shows up from this Chicago. label, and this one caught me off guard indeed, Purling Hiss´s “Waters On Mars ” is a very nice addition to their diversely awesome catalog.
In case you don´t remember, Purling Hiss is the alter-ego with which one Philly´s talented young man with a big heart for druggy tunes and heavy riffs .Mike Polizze with his old Mexican Stratocaster and companied by Kiel Everett-Mike Sneeringer , delivers his fresh and inventive take of thick, dense, wilded-out psychedelic hard rock .
Mike is no stranger to loud and distorted .musical landscapes either, he is also one of minds behind jam/psych juggernaut Birds Of Maya , with who also dish out some fantastic raucous ear candy.
Purling Hiss is likely a product of Mike´s influences, yet is completely drenched in his own creative juices.
He’s got a few solid releases out there on labels like Woodsist, Permanent Records or Mexican Summer . For Drag City,he gives us ” Water On Mars ” , nine jangly, vintage radio tunes with enough insanely catchy melodies to stick to your brain for weeks at a time, trust me. Early 70’s inspired vocal harmonies. tons of treble and reverb from it all- check.
