It was an event for the record books. On 12-12-12 wednesday night, more than a month after Hurricane Sandy rocked the East Coast, some of the world’s greatest musicians rocked out at Madison Square Garden in New York City as part of the concert to benefit victims of the storm. There were duets, fashion surprises, celebrity operators and, of course, lots of donations.
While big names performed, celebrities like Whoopi Goldberg, Billy Crystal, Susan Sarandon, Jimmy Fallon, James Gandolfini and many others in part took calls from the more than 2 billion viewers of the concert around the world.
The program live-streamed across the Web and was broadcast by hundreds of television and radio channels globally. The event took in at least $30 million in ticket sales and donations for the Robin Hood Relief Fund-the same foundation that organized the Concert for New York City after 9/11.. The performances stretched over about six hours and more than dozen performers.
