” I’m singing you the song but I can’t you sing enough
‘Cause there’s not many men that ´ve done the things that you’ve done. “
Bob Dylan – Song To Woody
In the mid 60’s, Bob Dylan revolutionized, thanks to his poetic inspiration and his critical spirit, the concept of the letters of the Rock. So it became a character in a huge musical influence and, despite himself, a cultural leader. He is the key figure of Folk, but the unequivocal master of this religion was Woodie Guthrie
Night owl and bohemian , he reported us at more than a thousand songs all that he saw, lived and thought throughout his short but eventful life.
His name is engraved in letters of fire in folk music story . I’m not gonna get into too many details about Woodie´s style and his work, as I am not a musician or a poet . It must suffice to say that I can find on his albums, enthralling examples of folk and blues and that he was not shy about write.
It has always been considered a protest singer, but his work came much further than that. He made songs against the war and unemployment, sang to the strikers, the homeless, told us the story of generous bandits and anarchists killed, but also honored with his raspy voice and his guitar to children and elderly of the mountains and plains of his homeland, America.
Today would be celebrating 100 years, he was born at Julio 14, 1912, then this post is as a sort of homage to this great artist who often we forget to mention.
So thanks Woodie Guthrie, wherever you are…
