After recording “Molly’s Lips” last week we decided it’d be fun to record some more songs by artists that have inspired us. With the Ramones being one of our favorite bands it wasn’t hard for us to agree on which artist to do next; what was hard was picking out which song of theirs to do, which actually took us almost the entire week since we pretty much like them all. We had lists of 40 songs going back and forth until we finally decided on “I Wanna Live”, the opening track to the band’s 1987 album Halfway To Sanity. When we sat down to learn the parts for the song we realized just how many guitar overdubs Johnny Ramone had actually done on this track, which is unusual for them. Apparently you can only write so many three-chord songs without having to add a little something extra to keep it fresh. I’m sure any Ramones fan would agree that though this song is a classic it’s often overlooked. In my case, this was the first Ramones song I ever heard and it has always been a favorite of mine. We hope you enjoy our version and keep your eyes peeled for the next one.
