The Migs, a Dover based rock group, is trying to bring some of ‘60s soul/psych garage music to the New Hampshire Seacoast. Keven Lareau said the group is trying to produce its own unique flavor of what its grown up with – garage, punk and surf rock.
The group, formed l at 2010´s summer, is made up of Keven Lareau and Craig Kowalchuck, both with alternate singing duties, as well as bass and guitar roles, and Brent Tardiff, who plays drums. Lareau had played with Tardiff previously before forming the group with Kowalchuck. Since then, the group has felt a strong chemistry, both on stage and when writing songs.
On November 2010, the group began playing shows in and near Dover, in places like Fury’s and the Stone Church. In a state where many jam and funk bands thrive, audiences have taken The Migs as a fresh new sound in the area. Lareau said he was surprised, but originally concerned the group’s sound might not go over as well. However, he was relieved to find that audiences were getting into what he calls its”surfy, lo-fi” vibe.
While the band hasn’t been around for very long, Lareau is confident about its future.
“We definitely see some familiar faces at shows,” he said, implying that the growth of a following may not be so far away.
For those seeking crunchy surf guitars and high energy shows, The Migs are your band. Once their recordings are done, they plan to play live regularly. Until then, keep your eye out for a sudden show booking and check out or download free their music below, directly from www.themigs.bandcamp.com
