In the January 07 week’s NME…

We’re kicking off 2012 with our traditional new bands issue – although this year, things are a little different. How so? Well, we’ve singled out no less than 100 of the best newbies around right now, with everyone from Noel Gallagher to Arctic Monkeys, Jack White, The Horrors and The Vaccines turning tipsters for us.

More specifically, we go on the run in Miami with A$AP Rocky, backstage in London with Howler and on the razz with Aussie party heroes DZ Deathrays. We also get word on how the likes of Alabama Shakes, Milk Music and King Krule are going to be spending the next 12 months. And then, we meet up with XL’s new signing Willis Earl Beal (who’s been getting advice from none other than Damon Albarn on what this pop lark’s all about), and collar the cream of the music industry crop to find out exactly where they think we’re headed in 2012…

Also in this issue, we review the year’s first great new album by a bunch of young hopefuls called, er, The Maccabees, and give our verdict on other new releases by a host of others including Enter Shikari and Trailer Trash Tracys.

We’ve got a bulging bag of live reviews too, featuring Coldplay, Iceage, ATP’s Nightmare Before Christmas and – oh yes – the Manics’ glorious swansong at London’s O2 Arena.

Finally, last year’s new bands issue cover star Justin Young of The Vaccines steps up to take the Does Rock’N’Roll Kill Braincells? test. The guy could do with taking more notice of what colour socks Ryan Jarman wears, that’s all we’ll say about that…
