Every time The Black Crowes go on hiatus, we get to Rich and Chris doing solo ventures. There is little doubt that beside the Crows made their own unique mark, but .ever know where are going to go with a solo song ,
Now, on this Crowes´s “hiatus,” their guitar player and founding member has released a sophomore solo effort. Through a Crooked Sun that opens up with a psych- folk-lazy blues vibe, through brighter melodies and tones with reminiscent of the Crowes , and encompassing emotional levels that them , with all their weapons, are sometimes can´t reaching.
The quieter Robinson brother’s voice is softer that what you’d expect from his work with the Crowes, However, his vocals are strong ,melancholy and subtle, and works well for his songs that wear multiple musical cloaks.
Rich Robinson is no stranger to the solo album game; he issued his solo debut, Paper , in 2007, featuring Rich’s first real attempt at singing , that unfortunately received rather so good reviews even amongst Crowes fans, It would be a shame if these bad reviews from Paper, overshadow the reception of Through a Crooked Sun. Whatever its flaws, it easily demonstrates a quantum leap in Robinson’s development as a solo artist. There are a number of different vibes and feelings and the instruments and textures they bring is far deeper.
Con más de 20 años en su carrera profesional, Rich Robinson demuestra que todavía tiene un montón de buena música, y algunas sorpresas que dar, sólo tenemos que abrir nuestra mente a las maravillas de la música …
