FIFTY LICKS

One Sunday in 1963, Eric Easton and Andrew Loog Oldham were traveling by car to the outskirts of Richmond to witness the performance of one of   strongest hopes of British R´n´B , this event took place in  then prestigious  Crawdady Club at Station Hotel with a membership composed half by  R´n´B fans  and slum-dweller people    from Chelsea.
A month later, on May 1963, Andrew Loog Oldham, a 19 years old pop singer who has no dreams of  artistic glory but solid  aspirations as  entrepreneur said  about them ” The Rolling Stones are more than just a band, they are a way of life “
Today, 50 years after this sentence does not seem a crazy stunt dialectic with advertising intentions, today this phrase has become a palpable realities and universal.
I could talk a lot about them as I’m a fan of his long way from being “The Rolling Stones” to “Ladies and gentlemen,  World’s Greatest Rock and Roll Band,..” between explosions.
Today, far from that R’n’B band with Brian Jones and Bill Wayman  that captivated me ( a R’n’B band does not use sound equipment so sophisticated) I’m still a big fan of all their efforts, maybe´ cause  they are one of bands that have really helped define my appreciation for music.
Now, another decade has passed in their career and according to tradition we get once again a compilation with edited versions:.
We all know that there is different reactions  almost instinctive about greatest hits albums  from  who care about these things, and maybe have  good reasons. I myself have  listening a lot of  The Best Of … compilations that seemed terrible to me , like it was a way to sell to fans a  same song  two or three times,   removing songs or forgetting   versions   which for fans are important 
Well, in this case it’s The Stones , and although many fans would find faults, here you  found maybe the best ever compilation with all the most popular singles for casual listeners, but also unearths very  interesting versions on  vast career  of this band ,  from which I will continue to waving his  flag…

LIGHT THE FUSE

The band traditionally kicks off each world tour with a surprise appearance in a suitably small space. For the 2005 tour, that space was Toronto’s Phoenix club, where several hundred ecstatic fans got to see the group test out new songs from A Bigger Bang, experiment with an alternative arrangement of “19th Nervous Breakdown,” and have some fun with covers ranging from Otis Redding’s “Mr. Pitiful” to Bob Marley’s “Get Up Stand Up”.
